Women’s Intimate Health: Do I Need an Intimate Cleanser?

Feminine hygiene has taken the self-care industry by storm. Stroll down the feminine intimate care aisle, and you’ll be convinced you’re not doing enough to keep your vagina fresh and clean. The truth with most vagina cleaning products is that marketers often use the term “vagina” to describe what’s your vulva. Your vagina doesn’t need cleansing, so don’t get fooled by clever marketing. But your vulva can benefit from a little extra TLC.

Your vagina is the muscular canal inside the body. For the most part, you should leave it alone — it cleans itself. The vulva is the outer part around the vagina. This area includes the inner and outer labia, the clitoral hood, the clitoris and urethra, and the pubic mound.

Washing inside your vagina can lead to an imbalance in your natural microbiome and disrupt your vaginal pH. But cleaning the exterior should be part of your daily routine. At Joylux, we got tired of seeing products on the shelves made with harsh chemicals that irritate the delicate vulvar skin. So we made CleansHER.

Why Should I Use CleansHER?

Most skincare products today contain harmful ingredients. They also typically have high pH levels (9-10). This combination spells disaster for your delicate vulvar tissue — dryness, irritation, and discomfort.

All of our HER Intimate Care products have a balanced pH of about 4.5, which is close to your natural vaginal pH. In addition, we only use gentle ingredients that are healthy for every part of a woman’s body — especially the vulva.

Joylux is a women’s health company, with a team of women deeply committed to your intimate health and wellness. Dr. Sarah de la Torre, Ob-Gyn, formulated our line of clean, intimate care products with the vulva in mind. It’s made to help cleanse, hydrate, protect, and ward off unwanted scents safely. This means you won’t be at risk of infection, irritation, or imbalance when using our products.

Why Do Women Need Unique Intimate Care?

Just like the skin on the rest of your body, your vulva benefits from hydration. However, we found that nearly 50% of women experience some level of dryness during their lifetime. When your vulvar tissue feels dry and irritated, you may turn down sex, feel self-conscious of odor or redness, and struggle with itching and burning.

Ingredients in many skincare products produce a low acidity pH level between 9 and 10. Having a higher pH than your vagina can cause irritation, infections, and odor to the intimate area. The sensitive tissue of a woman’s intimate area prefers products with a pH between 3.8 and 4.5.

The skin of your vulva is sensitive and absorbent. Therefore, when you apply harsh ingredients, it increases the risk of irritation and can be absorbed into the body.

That’s why we only use natural ingredients such as aloe leaf extract and vitamins. As a result, you’ll never find harmful chemicals like parabens, propylene glycol, mineral oils, phthalates, petrochemicals, PEG, synthetic dyes, and alcohol.

Don’t just take our word for it. This is what our customers have to say:

“This cleanser leaves me feeling clean and refreshed with no irritation or after-effects. It has a slight citrusy scent and rinses clean. It feels less like soap and more like, as best as I can describe it as thick water."

“I'm not big on feminine products, but I have to say CleansHER is a product my body likes. I'm very sensitive to fragrances- this one is a fresh, clean, light scent that I'm delighted to use.”

Experience cleansHER for yourself—you don’t know what you have been missing.
