Redefining intimacy as we age
It’s a common misconception that as we age, our sexual intimacy fizzles out.
I want to let you in on a little secret…
…sexual adventures don’t have to stop because you reach a certain age.
But how you approach sex should be redefined.
We can’t avoid how our bodies change with age.
For women, we experience vaginal dryness and thinning vaginal walls due to hormonal changes with menopause. This can cause discomfort and pain during vaginal intercourse.
And men may experience issues achieving erections.
However, sex isn’t just about traditional intercourse. It’s about establishing a deeper emotional and physical connection and exploring new ways to experience pleasure with your partner.
This can happen when you invite extended foreplay into your sex life.
Extended foreplay moves beyond intercourse and orgasm, and allows you to explore toys, role-playing, massage and trying new things. Communication is a big part of extended foreplay.
Here’s how I recommend moving forward:
-
Flirt throughout the day. Extended foreplay can begin as soon as you wake up in the morning. A gentle brush of your partners back while getting ready, hand-holding as you enjoy your coffee, or flirty smiles and compliments will go a long way when you are ready to get sensual.
-
Spend time exploring. Get to know each other’s bodies from head to toe. This will help you feel more connected and discover new ways you and your partner enjoy being touched. Plus, this practice will allow you to open up more about things you’d like to try.
-
Talk about sex more. Invite more dialogue around what you enjoy, what you may not enjoy, and ask your partner to openly express their needs. Not quite sure how to begin these conversations? Click here to get started.
- Move beyond traditional intercourse. As we age, traditional intercourse may not be as appealing as it once was. Especially if you experience dryness and vaginal pain or your partner experiences erectile issues. vFit is a great way to promote natural lubrication!
This is an excellent opportunity to explore using different methods such as mouths, hands, toys, and other fun objects around the home. If you do want to enjoy traditional intercourse, remember to use a water or silicone-based lubricant to support vaginal comfort and incorporate plenty of foreplay.
